DESCRIPTION:We have a tree planting blitz scheduled at Capon Bridge Elementary on Saturday\, April 19th from 9 am to Noon. \nWe are fortunate to have the Cacapon Institute provide canopy trees every year in our community- this time at a local elementary school! Trees will be placed on the gym hill\, along the driveway\, added to the new woodland trail and around a new Council Circle on the schoolgrounds. \nLooking to get 20+ volunteers to help plant 35 trees — rain or shine! \nWe’ll pre-dig the holes so it’s not terribly difficult. It’s part of the Friends of the Cacapon River’s annual Tree Jamboree effort. The trees are provided by the Cacapon Institute for free! We will collect what we see but our main targets will be the automobile\, tractor trailer and heavy equipment TIRES that populate the river bottom.   All sections of the 81-mile water trail are open for searching by a team or individually. \nThis year the teams lead by Jim Ott will focus on that section of river spanning from Wardensville to Capon Bridge as part of a larger years long project to remove as close to 100% of tires from this span. \n\nAt the start of each weekend\, each team will briefly convene a “safety and plan of attack” meeting\nIf other leaders are available\, we can extend our search downstream from Capon Bridge as well.\nJim will send further details to all volunteers who sign up and provide an email address.\nA short video on “Tire Wrangling” that covers some basic aspects of hunting and extracting tires will be posted at the FOC website in advance of the cleanup dates.\nAVENZA maps of discrete sections of the entire 81-mile River Trail as well as a quick tutorial of the Free Program AVENZA will also be posted at FOC in advance of the cleanup dates . See creatures face-to-face in thetir own underwater world is an amazing way to appreciate their diverse and fragile aquatic ecosystems.  \nAfter all\, it’s our shared role in protecting them. Without clear water\, we cannot snorkel! \nThis activity allows people to explore beneath the surface while horizontally rock climbing in shallow water looking for fish and other water creatures. Minimum age to participate is 6. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
