OUR WORK
What We Do Now.
We are an essential resource of Cacapon River knowledge. We focus on consolidating and communicating the latest educational, recreational, and scientific information about the Cacapon River for everyone with an interest in the river and its watershed.
What We’ve Done in the Past.
The Friends of the Cacapon River began in the 1970s as one of the earliest watershed protection associations in West Virginia. Since officially incorporating as a 501(c)3 organization in 1992, our efforts have focused on the lower stretches of the Cacapon River that run through Morgan and Hampshire Counties, to the mouth of the river, where it joins the Potomac River before entering the Chesapeake Bay.
Over the past 40 years, we have implemented and sponsored diverse activities to protect and promote the river we love. Some of our notable past projects include large-scale river cleanups, water testing and monitoring along the Cacapon River, endangered species tracking, landowner outreach and education, youth camps, and education scholarships for local students.
