Fly Fishing Clinics July 22nd and July 23rd

The FRIENDS OF THE CACAPON RIVER, THE RIVER HOUSE, and Trout Unlimited ARE Hosting A FLY FISHING CELEBRATION WEEEKEND ON JULY 22 AND JULY 23. IN ADDITION TO A NUMBER OF ARTS RELATED EVENTS, WE ARE HOSTING Three 3-HOUR INTRODUCTORY Clinics THAT WILL TEACH YOU FLY CASTING in a fun atmosphere. Our instructors will guide you through casting techniques as well as how to tie fishing knots. Classes are Saturday July 22 at 9 AM and 1 PM and again on Sunday Juy 23 at 9 AM. Pre-registration is required.

Trash Pick-Up in the Lower Cacapon, May 7th, 2022

Our dedicated and roughed volunteers completed a major trash clean up at the Great Cacapon public access site today. Rain and chilly temps didn’t deter this group. Thank you, Mercedes & Paul Tibbits, for organizing this event. (and thanks to WVDEP too!)

Macroinvertebrate Survey, August 7th, 2021

Thank you, Callie Sams of Save our Streams, for a great macroinvertebrate workshop last Saturday! It was a fun learning experience for young people and the young-at-heart too.

Beginner Fly Fishing Clinic, July 18th & 25th, 2021

Our first fly fishing clinic was a huge success! Thank you, Mike Grimm and Ryan Cooper, for your organization and teaching skills. We had 8 novice fly fishers on July 18th, another great turnout on July 25th, and everyone had a great time!

Trash Your Canoe Contest, June 5th – 13th, 2021

Guided Cacapon River Float, May 16th, 2021

The West Virginia Navy left dock on this day… 32 paddlers made the Capon Bridge to Route 127 run. Few raindrops but these sailors are hearty!

Trash Pick-Up in the Lower Cacapon, April 25th, 2021

You all are AMAZING! Two dozen river-lovers picked up trash, tires — even TVs along the lower Cacapon on this past Sunday.

Water Reporter

Friends of the Cacapon will use the Water Reporter app as a critical tool in support of our Keep the Cacapon Clean campaign.

Water Reporter users join an online community of individuals and organizations working to map and protect their local water resources. Developed by Chesapeake Commons, this mobile application for Android and iPhone has been deployed nationwide in dozens of watersheds as a way of crowd-sourcing geo-referenced images of waterways, and reporting water quality threats in real-time.
